OFI Crete continued their dream start to the fledgling Super League season with a confident 3-1 home win over Panetolikos in Irakleio on Saturday, stretching their unbeaten run to three matches.

After a goalless first-half at the Theodoros Vardinogiannis Stadium in which OFI had Minito Viai sent off for a reckless challenge on Juan Neira, Georgios Simos’ side went 2-0 up thanks to a goal from Kosmas Tsilianidis after 54 minutes and a Dimitris Manos strike a minute after the hour mark.

Vlad Morar did give Luis De Castro’s side a glimmer of hope when he pulled a goal back in the 69th minute, but any hopes of a dramatic comeback from the visitors were extinguished five minutes from time when Tsilianidis truck his second of the night to make it 3-1 and ensure the result was safe.

The victory, which is OFI’s second 3-1 win in a row and second triumph in three matches overall, moves the Cretan club onto seven points, just two behind leaders PAOK after three matches.

Things are certainly not so rosy for struggling Panetolikos, as the Agrinio club have now suffered three straight defeats in what has been a nightmare start to the 2018/19 campaign for them so far.
