Both PAOK and Olympiacos continue to set the pace in the Super League, AEK gained traction under the leadership of Massimo Carrera and Aris finally got back to winning ways.

The unbeaten run continues. PAOK had to wait, but after Panionios kept them out during the first half, the Dikefalos tou Vorra eventually broke through in the second half with two goals from Sverrir Ingi Ingason and Chuba Akpom at point blank range. At the moment, PAOK continue to occupy joint first place of the Super League table, level on 37 points with arch-rivals Olympiacos who comfortably defeated AE Larissa 4-1 at an empty Karaiskakis Stadium as Giorgos Masouras (2), Hillal Soudani and Youssef El Arabi struck gold.

AEK created daylight for themselves in third position. In all honesty, Carrera’s men barely deserved the win against a positive, daring Asteras Tripolis side at the Olympic Stadium, but a Petros Mantalos penalty and Marko Livaja’s poacher’s goal were enough to snatch a 2-1 victory. Panagiotis Tsintotas, who replaced the injured Vasilis Barkas in the closing stages, produced a stunning save to secure the three points.

In Heraklion, OFI had the chance to keep the pressure on third-placed AEK, but they lost ground in fourth position with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Panathinaikos. When Joao Figueiredo scored and Bart Schenkeveld received a red card, it seemed certain that OFI would emerge victorious, but Federico Macheda equalised for Panathinaikos with six minutes remaining. Panathinaikos, sitting in sixth position, trail OFI by two points.

Aris, now in fifth position, are back to winning ways. Prior to their game against Volos NFC, the Thessaloniki outfit were without a Super League victory in four successive matches, but they emphatically snapped that unwanted streak with a routine 4-0 triumph at the Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium. Brown Ideye and Bruno Gama both scored a brace each.

Volos, for their part, are down in 11th with 17 points from 15 games.

Elsewhere, Panetolikos are still without a win as they drew 0-0 at Xanthi, and Lamia played to a credible 1-1 draw against Atromitos in Peristeri.

Player of the Week: Brown Ideye (Aris)

Ideye is starting to enjoy life in Greece again. Last week, the 31-year-old Nigerian striker got on the board at OFI, and he grabbed two against Volos on Thursday with two good finishes. Unfortunately for Ideye, he was forced off with an injury in the second half, and he could miss the next few weeks.

Goal of the Week: Luis Fernandez (Asteras Tripolis)

Receiving the ball after Michalis Bakakis had been robbed of possession, the Spanish forward wonderfully moved to a shooting position, before unleashing a spectacular drive which flew beyond the flailing dive of Barkas. A superb consolation for the Tripoli club.
