OFI on top in many statistical categories

Numbers emerge from 1st half of SLGR campaign.

AGONAsport breaks down the numbers to emerge from the first half of the 2019/2020 Super League regular season.

Olympiacos and PAOK appear to be in two-horse race for the title. With 13 rounds in the books, the pair boast a healthy 10-point lead over third-placed AEK, both still undefeated with nine victories and four draws each. PAOK recently claimed a valuable point at the Karaiskakis Stadium against Olympiacos in an exciting 1-1 draw.

However, while Olympiacos and PAOK are surely a level above the rest, it’s worth remembering that playoffs will take place after the regular season ends. Something which gives AEK faint hope of somehow clawing themselves back into contention.

Let’s take a look at the main statistics to emerge from the first half of the 2019/2020 Super League regular season:

TEAM STATISTICS

Top scorers: PAOK, the reigning champions, have scored 25 goals, two more than Olympiacos and AEK who have hit the back of the net on 23 occasions. OFI (22 goals), Atromitos (21 goals) and Aris (20 goals) are just behind the leading trio.

Lowest amount of goals conceded: Olympiacos, with the reliable Jose Sa standing between the sticks, have only conceded five goals in 13 games. AEK, in stark comparison, have conceded a large 17 goals. Rock-bottom Panetolikos have let in 24 goals, more than anyone else in the Super League.

Goal attempts: Olympiacos have unleashed 172 shots at goal in 13 matches, while PAOK have registered 170 attempts and AEK have tallied 166 shots. OFI (163) and Aris (150) aren’t far behind.

Assists: Olympiacos have made 18 assists, but PAOK are close behind with 17 assists. OFI (15 assists), Atromitos (14 assists) and AE Larissa (14 assists) complete the top five.

Passes: Once again, Olympiacos are at the top of the list, and they are streets above the rest of the pack with a grand total of 994 passes. Atromitos, in second place of this ranking, have completed 733 passes. Asteras Tripolis (725), Panathinaikos (710) and OFI (664) complete the top five.

Woodwork: PAOK have been denied by the frame of the goal nine times, while OFI and Aris have struck the woodwork on eight occasions. AEK (six) and Atromitos (five) have also regularly hit the bar or post.

Video Assistant Referee (VAR): There have been 47 on-field reviews, with 30 of the original decisions subsequently being overturned. 20 more VAR Reviews in the control room resulted in original decisions being changed. Overall, there have been 298 VAR Checks, an average of 22.9 per round.

Yellow cards: AEL have received 48 yellow cards, more than any other Super League club. Panathinaikos are in second with 46 bookings. OFI (39), Asteras (37) and Panionios (37) complete the top five.

Red cards: Panetolikos have had four players sent off, while Aris have been reduced to 10 men on three occasions. Xanthi, Panionios, AEK, Volos NFC, Asteras and AEL have received two red cards each.

Attempted crosses: PAOK have attempted 356 crosses in the championship, with Olympiacos not far behind (344). AEK (299), AEL (256) and Panathinaikos (253) complete the top five.

Successful crosses: 118 of PAOK’s 356 crosses have been successful, the highest amount in the Super League. Olympiacos are in second with 115 completed crosses, while AEK (100), Asteras Tripolis (82) and OFI (73) are some way behind.

INDIVIDUAL STATISTICS

Top scorer: AEK forward Nelson Oliveira is the top scorer with eight goals to his name. Karol Swiderski (PAOK) and Giorgos Manousos (Atromitos) have scored seven markers, while Bachana Arabuli (Panionios) and Lisandro Semedo (OFI) have tallied six goals.

Goal attempts: Adil Nabi, who has impressed with OFI, has unleashed 34 shots at goal, while AEL star Amr Warda has registered 33 attempts. Lisandro Semedo (32), Luis Fernandez (30) and Marko Livaja (29) complete the top five.

Goals/attempts: Bachana Arabuli of Panionios leads the way, as he scores one goal per 3.2 shots. Jeronimo Barrales (3.3), Nelson Oliveira (3.5), Karol Swiderski (3.6) and Youssef El Arabi (3.7) have also earned solid goals per shots averages.

Assists: AEK captain Petros Mantalos has contributed with six assists, more than any other Super League player so far. Adrian Riera (Asteras Tripolis), Juan Neira (OFI), Dimitris Limnios (PAOK) and Giannis Fetfatzidis (Aris) have all dished out four assists each.

Saves: Carlos Abad of Xanthi has made 40 saves in the first half of the regular season, more than any other goalkeeper in the league. Ögmundur Kristinsson (36), Nikos Papadopoulos (36), Sokratis Dioudis (33) and Dimitris Sotiriou (30) have also pulled off a high number of saves.

Attempted crosses: Marko Livaja (AEK) has whipped in the most amount of crosses with 91 attempts to his name. Ergys Kace (AEL), Javier Matilla (Aris) and Josip Misic (PAOK) share second spot with 90 crosses. Mathieu Valbuena (70) completes the top five.

Successful crosses: Josip Misic of PAOK has completed more crosses than anyone else (41). Ergys Kace (28), Marko Livaja (28), Kosmas Tsilianidis (25) and Mathieu Valbuena (24) complete the top five.

Passes: Olympiacos defensive midfielder Guilherme has completed 143 passes, two more than Juan Neira. Andreas Bouchalakis (136), Javier Matilla (126) and Daniel Podence (114) are the remaining three players in the leading five positions of this category.

Yellow cards: Panathinaikos full-back Emanuel Insua has collected eight yellow cards, more than any other Super League player. Mattias Johansson is just behind with seven bookings. Nikos Korovesis (OFI), Aleksandar Kovacevic (Xanthi), Ergys Kace (AEL), Marko Livaja (AEK), Juan Neira (OFI), Federico Macheda (Panathinaikos) and Elin Dimoutsos (Lamia) have all received six yellow cards.

Red cards: 23 different players have received one red card each.
