OFI SLUMP TO VOLOS IN CRETE
OFI Crete began 2020 just as they ended 2019, with another defeat as they slipped to a 2-1 home loss against Volos at the Theodoros Vardinoyiannis stadium in Heraklion.
Leftheris Lyratzis opened the scoring for Juan Ferrando’s visitors from Magnesia after 35 minutes, but OFI levelled two minutes before the hour mark through Juan Neira.
Georgios Simos’ OFI side squandered several chances to move ahead in the match in the second half, and the home side were made to pay when Fernando Ruben Joao struck what proved to be a 79th-minute winner for Volos.
The result means OFI lost for the second time in succession and is now without a win in its last three matches, a run of form which if continues threatens to derail the Cretan club’s great start to the season and its bid for the European places.
However, for now OFI are in fifth place with 23 points, while Volos climb up to eighth spot with 21 points.
