The top four consisting of Olympiacos, PAOK, AEK and OFI all claimed important victories on matchday 14 of the 2019/2020 Super League campaign.

Olympiacos and PAOK are continuing to match each other’s results. On Sunday, the top two both earned comfortable victories on the road, with Olympiacos breezing past 10-man Asteras 5-0 in Tripoli and PAOK cruising to a routine 3-0 win at Panetolikos. Giorgos Masouras (2), Daniel Podence and Youssef El Arabi (2) found the net for Olympiacos, while Dimitris Pelkas, Dimitris Limnios and Chuba Akpom struck gold for the Dikefalos tou Vorra in Agrinio.

On Saturday, AEK played their maiden game under the leadership of newly-appointed boss Massimo Carrera, eventually emerging victorious against Xanthi with Konstantinos Galanopoulos lashing in a winning goal in the 84th minute. AEK have now recorded two consecutive clean sheets for the second time in the current Super League campaign.

OFI tallied the most impressive win of the weekend. Recovering from last week’s setback at Lamia, the Cretans showed character and quality against Aris, netting three unanswered markers to win 3-1 after Brown Ideye had initially given the visitors the lead in Heraklion. OFI, high-flying in fourth position, only trail AEK by two points.

Tasos Chatzigiovanis’ confidently-taken penalty and a clever goal from Juan Jose Perea was enough for fifth-placed Panathinaikos to defeat Lamia 2-0 at the Olympic Stadium. Interesingly, this was the first league loss for Lamia since late October, as their great run of results came to a sharp end in Athens.

Elsewhere, improving Atromitos claimed a vital 2-1 win at AE Larissa, while Volos NFC scored two goals in the second half to beat Panionios by the same score at the Panthessaliko Stadium.

Player of the Week: Youssef El Arabi (Olympiacos)

The 32-year-old Moroccan striker is a goal machine. In Tripoli, El Arabi produced a superb performance for five-star Olympiacos, scoring two goals at point blank range while also providing an assist for Podence’s marker. A true candidate for the signing of the summer.

Goal of the Week: João Figueiredo (OFI)

Receiving a defence-splitting pass from Kosmas Tsilianidis, Figueiredo calmly controlled the ball, moved away from the Aris back line and delicately chipped the onrushing Julian Cuesta to seal the deal for OFI. The Brazilian forward has scored three goals in 13 Super League matches for the Cretan organisation.
