The 2019/2020 Super League has officially been suspended until further notice as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

On Friday, the Super League organisation released the following statement:

“Unanimous decision by Super League Greece clubs to postpone the Play Off and Play Out matches until further notice.”

It’s now expected that the Board of Directors will next meet at the end of March in order to decide how to move forward.

The vast majority of European leagues have suspended play until April.

At the weekend, PAOK were due to host Olympiacos in Thessaloniki, AEK were supposed to play against Panathinaikos in the Athenian derby and Aris were preparing to welcome OFI to the Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium.

However, these games won’t take place until at least April, and there is doubt whether the campaign will actually be completed. The coronavirus is predicted to continue causing havoc until the summer when warmer weather arrives.

Olympiacos, PAOK, AEK, Panathinaikos, OFI and Aris had all qualified for the championship playoffs of the Super League.
