One goal from Josip Misic was enough for PAOK to claim three important points against OFI on the road with a 1-0 win.

Having dropped two points at home to Panathinaikos last week, PAOK were in need of a win to keep pace with Olympiacos at the top of the table, and the reigning Super League champions duly registered a hard-fought 1-0 win at high-flying OFI with Misic scoring a stunner.

PAOK are now in first place of the standings, but Olympiacos will overtake them tomorrow if they manage to beat Atromitos at the Karaiskakis Stadium.

This is OFI’s first home defeat this season. The Heraklion outfit remain in fourth place with 16 points from 10 games.

PAOK will next play AE Larissa at home in the league on November 24, while OFI travel to Peristeri to face Atromitos.

THE MATCH

Both teams immediately set an intense tempo inside the atmospheric Theodoros Vardinogiannis Stadium.

Dimitris Limnios had the best chance of the half. Racing through clean through, the talented Greek international winger only had Dimitris Sotiriou to beat, but he was denied by the goalkeeper.

Sotiriou was the busier goalkeeper as PAOK began to force the issue.

PAOK eventually broke through in the 56th minute. And it was a goal to remember.

Unmarked on the edge of the area, Misic unleashed a wonderful strike which smacked the underside of the bar on its way into the net.

The Dikefalos tou Vorra continued to create opportunities as time began to run down. Requiring goals, OFI did attempt to put pressure on PAOK, but the visitors calmly held firm and condemned their hosts to their third defeat in four Super League matches.
